I. Kolthoff, "Acid Base Indicators "
Publisher: N.Y. Macmillan and Company | 1937 | ISBN:1406750093 | Pages: 435 | PDF | 20.3 MB
Those substances, the color of which changes with the hydrogen ion concentration of a solution, have been called, until recently, "Color Indicators”. Unfortunately, this name is not exact, nor was it logically chosen, since oxidation-reduction, adsorption indicators, etc. are also accompanied by a color change when they function as indicators. Accordingly it is better to designate those substances, the color of which depends upon the acidity or alkalinity of a solution, as Acid-Base Indicators. In this monograph, they will be referred to simply as Indicators. The contents of this book differ essentially from those of its predecessor. Only the first two chapters dealing with the general concepts and calculations of acidity, and the reaction of ampholytes, have been retained, with minor changes and additions. The remainder of this monograph is newly written.
